Vallee Blanche - Course Summary (1 Day in Chamonix)

mont blanc guides, chamonix mont blanc guides, mountain guides, chamonix mountain guides, mont blanc ascent, haute routeThe Vallee Blanche (VB) is one of the longest, most easily accessible off-piste runs in the world. The Vallee Blanche is approximately 22km of descent through some of the most incredible mountain scenery imaginable. The normal descent is relatively straightforward and achievable for reasonably fit skiers who are able to ski red runs. The majority of the descent is off-piste on glaciated terrain. Your guide will equip you with the required safety equipment of a harness and avalanche transceiver. The day starts with a dramatic cable car ride which takes you 3km up to the summit of the Aiguille Du Midi. At the summit station, on a clear day, we will have time to enjoy the views of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn in Zermatt and the Grand Paradiso in Italy. Before starting the descent down the Valley Blanche your guide will equip the group with the necessary safety equipment before guiding you down the thrilling arête. From here you will put on your skis and your Mountain Guides guide will take the group on one of the many different variants down the Valley Blanche. the actual route taken will depend on conditions at the time and the ability of the group. During the day you will stop for a picnic lunch or at the Requin mountain hut where hot food is served. There will also be many opportunities to stop to take lots of photographs of the breathtaking scenery. In good conditions it is possible, with a short walk uphill on foot, to reach tracks on which we can ski down through the forest to Chamonix. Alternatively just before the end of the glacier we walk up some steps to a cable car that will take us up to the Montenver train station. From here we will take the train down to Chamonix for a well deserved beer. This is a truly fantastic day and a once in a lifetime skiing experience.
