Ski Touring Haute Route - Course Summary (Chamonix to Zermatt 7 Days)

haute route, chamonix to zermatt, mountain guidesProbably the most well known and undoubtedly the most scenic ski tour in the world. Ski Touring Haute Route - Sample Program

Day 1 Arrival and meet guide plus check equipment.
Day 2 The first day we warm up skiing in the Chamonix valley where we also check out our ski touring equipment and work on basic safety skills. The night is spent in a hotel in the Chamonix valley.
Day 3 We start the High Level Route from Argentiere where  we ski down onto and across the Argentiere glacier. We then ascend the Chardonnet or Le Tour glaciers and make our way to the Triente hut at 3170m, and a warm welcome from Thierry and Fatima the hut guardians.
Day 4 From the Triente hut we have a long ski descent to the village of Champex and take a bus to the Verbier ski area to access the Mont Fort hut at 2457m, this hut is situated in the Verbier ski area.
Day 5 From the Mont Fort hut we climb the Rosablanche 3386m and descend to the Prafleurie hut. At 2981m. This a new and modern hut a great improvement on the unmanned hut before!
Day 6 After a short skin up to the Col de Roux, we descend to the Lac de Dix and enjoy a scenic skin alongside the lac followed by steeper terrain to the Dix hut at 2928m.
Day 7 An early start enables us to traverse the Pigne d’Arrolla 3796m and one of the highpoints of the tour. From the summit on a clear day we can see the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc the Dente Blanche and hundreds of other majestic peaks. From here we descend to the amazingly situated Vignettes hut at 3194m.
Day 8 The longest day on the tour, and an early start. From the Vignettes hut we travel over 3 cols and onto to our final descent to Zermatt passing under the incredible North Face of the Matterhorn. Normally we will have time for a late lunch in Zermatt before our taxi transfer back to the Chamonix Valley.
