Mont Blanc Ascent - Course Summary (6 Days Based in Chamonix)
Mont
Blanc is western Europe’s highest mountain at 4808 metres (15,780 feet).
Reaching the summit is a great achievement for experienced alpinists and
beginners alike and is a realistic goal on a one week Mont Blanc Ascent course
with Mountain Guides. Our courses are specifically
designed to give our clients the maximum chance of summiting. We therefore have
a high success rate for our trips. After 3 days of training and acclimatisation
we allow 3 days to climb Mont Blanc via the Tete Rousse and Gouter huts. As a
result of the way that we have designed our course - with two nights on the
mountain - you and your guides have 2 opportunities to reach the summit. The
programme below is not fixed and can change if conditions and weather vary. Your
guide will choose the best routes and venues for the
conditions at the time.
Mont Blanc Ascent Sample Program
| Day 1 |
Evening meeting with guides to discuss
equipment and course structure. |
| Day 2 |
Ecole de glace (ice training day) on the Mer de Glace. You learn basic crampon and ice axe techniques which are invaluable for
an ascent of Mont Blanc. |
| Day 3 |
Traverse of the Vallee Blanche and
an ascent of the Aiguille de Toule 3534m. Night in a mountain hut. |
| Day 4 |
Climb Mont Blanc du Tacul (4248m)
A great acclimatisation climb with fantastic views of Mont Blanc. We
then descend to the Chamonix valley. |
| Day 5 |
An easy 2 to 3 hour walk to the Tete
Rousse hut at 3204 metres. |
| Day 6 |
We usually try and climb to the summit
4808 returning to stay in the Gouter hut at 3800 metres. If the weather
conditions or client fitness precludes a summit attempt then we use the
day to climb to the Gouter hut. |
| Day 7 |
We descend to the valley from the
Gouter hut or climb to the summit from the hut and then return to the
valley. |
The above programme is not fixed and can change if weather and conditions
vary. Your guide will choose the best routes and venues for the
conditions at the time.
